Castlereagh is suburb located 67 kilometers west of the CBD. It is one of the most historic sites in Australia’s history – it was one of the five Macquarie towns officially proclaimed on 6th December 1810 by Governor Lachlan Macquarie. He recorded in his journal the Township for the Evan or Nepean District I have named Castlereagh in honor (sic) of Lord Viscount CastlereaghÂ.
After 200 years, the river flats still provide for a busy agricultural industry along the Nepean River. The suburb’s historical importance is reflected in its variety of surviving farmhouses, outbuildings and churches.
