Gymea Taxi

Gymea is located 26 kilometers south of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. It shares its 2227 postcode with the adjacent suburb of Gymea Bay. The area was named after the Gymea Lily that grows in the area. The lily is a 6 meter tall perennial that was once quite prevalent in the area, however due to development of the area many of the lilies have died off, they can still be found however a few kilometers south in the Royal National Park.

The lily was named by the local Eora people and in 1855 it became the inspiration for the town’s name. By the 1920′s steam trains were in operation running between Cronulla and Sutherland via Gymea. The area is a low density residential suburb close to Gymea railway station. There is a small shopping strip called Gymea Shopping Village along Gymea Bay Road.
