Hinchinbrook is located 39 kilometers south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Liverpool. Hinchinbrook is a very new suburb having only been on the map since 1986. It was formed from parts of the northern end of Hoxton Park and the southern part of Green Valley.
Hinchinbrook got its name from the creek that runs through the suburb. The creek itself had been named after a property in the adjacent Cecil Hills that had belonged to Barron Field a Supreme Court Judge, who had named his property after the English Estate of the forth Earl of sandwich John Montagu. Hinchinbrook is a residential suburb with the Valley Plaza shopping centre and schools Hoxton Park High School, James Busby High School, Good Samaritan Catholic College and Hinchinbrook Public School. The neighbouring suburbs include Cecil Park, Middleton Grange, West Hoxton, Green Valley, Busby, Hoxton Park, Prestons and Miller.
