Homebush is located 15 kilometers from the Sydney central business district. It is under the local area government of the Municipality of Strathfield.Homebush, Homebush West and Homebush bay are all separate suburbs. Assistant surgeon Darcy Wentworth established Homebush in the 1800′s. There are conflicting ideas as to how Homebush got its name and include it was named after a place in Kent in England, Wentworth is claimed to have called the area his Home in the bush, and the local cattle yards were located at what is now Flemington Markets. Drovers would camp in the pasteurized terrain which was so different from the bush they had just driven their cattle through – and they may have adapted the name Home Bush.
The area is a mix of residential and commercial, with a retail strip of shops located along Rochester Street extending down along Crescent Street. There are many commercial developments along Parramatta Road.
