Things You Must Avoid While Traveling in Cabs

Traveling in a cab is indeed enjoyable, especially when you reach your destination conveniently and on time. However, if you think carefully, calling a taxi in Sydney also involves certain risk factors as you are surrendering control over to a completely unknown person. So it becomes significant to think about your personal safety and concerns while you are hiring the cab. Here are certain things which you need to avoid while traveling in cabs, so that your ride becomes safe, convenient and hassle-free.

  • Exposing expensive items: If you are travelling with items that are quite expensive, such as mobile devices, cameras, jewelry and so on, never carry them openly. Carrying such items hidden in backpacks, purses or bags will prevent you from becoming a target for thieves. In short, avoid keeping these items in a position from where they are easier to grab. Place your luggage on the floor close to you, so that they are hard to see or reach.
  • Riding with windows open: Do not make yourself an easy target for snatchers; keep the windows closed when you are traveling in a cab. Rolling up the window apparently seems a very insignificant thing, but you might save yourself and your valuable belongings by simply doing so. In closing the windows, you might feel a bit of suffocation due to lack of fresh air. To get over this, the windows can be rolled down as you are travelling across the highways and far from the stoplights.
  • Believing that the taxi meter is broken: Some cab drivers tend to earn some extra bucks by making passengers believe in the myth that the taxi meter in non-functional or broken. Remember that there is always a fare system and the meter, more often than not, works fine. So, when a cab driver tells you that the meter is not working, avoid being taken away by this myth.
  • Taking a cab alone in the drunken state: You might think that in a drunken state, it is the right decision to hire a cab. But it is not so, especially when you are travelling singly, as you and your luggage are at great risk once you fall asleep. So, if you are drunk and need to hire a cab, try to get someone trustworthy to accompany you. Make sure that the person accompanying you is not in a drunken state and can stay awake all through the ride. In case you are all alone, avoid boarding a cab till you gain full consciousness.
  • Hailing a cab: There have been cases of independent taxi drivers stealing or cheating travelers. So it is always good to book a cab from a renowned service provider rather than hailing one. While you contact a service provider in Sydney for taxi to airport or any other destination, make a note of the cab number to ensure that you are getting into the right vehicle.

Make your travel a pleasant one by avoiding the above-mentioned things. Happy riding!
