Initially before being called a suburb, the name was given to a school. The area was officially opened in 1817, by the timber cutters. The aboriginal settlements were known to be Upper, Middle, Lower, North and Little Dural.
Arcadia is said to be located in the area known as upper North Shore.
The original dwellers to the Sydney suburb (located 42kilometres northwest to the Sydney CBD) were known as Darug people. Arcadia could be seen on the map by Surveyor James Meehan in April 1817 by the name of Dooral. Dooral enclosed all the areas included in present day Arcadia like Glenorie, Glaston and Dural.
