Hassall Grove is located 46 kilometers west of the Sydney central business district, it is in the local government area of the City of Blacktown, and it is part of the Greater Western Sydney region
In 1798 clergyman, grazier and magistrate Thomas Hassall (1874-1868) arrived in the colony with his family settling down in the Camden area. Thomas Hassall had married Anne Marsden who was the eldest daughter of the Reverend Samuel Marsden. Their three sons Samuel, Rowland and James were some of the earliest students at The Kings School located at Parramatta. In 1813 Thomas Hassall opened the very first Sunday school in Australia.
Hassall Grove was named in honor of Rowland Hassall who had been associated with the area as the Church of England Minister.He was also acting as the agent for the estates of Phillip Parker King and during his absences Samuel Marden’s properties.
