Claymore is located 54 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district. The area now known as Claymore is the historical home to the Tharawal people. British settlers only began moving into the area in the early 19th century. They established farms and orchards in the area. According to the 2006 census, Claymore had a population of 3294 people. Most people are Australian-born and speak English as a first language although there is a substantial Samoan community with 12.2% speaking the Samoan language.
