Ermington Taxi

Ermington is located 19 kilometers north west of the Sydney central business district; it is under the local area government of the City of Parramatta, and lies on the northern bank of the Parramatta River.

The area was once home to the Wallumedegal aboriginal people. Governor Phillip granted parcels of land along the northern bank of the Parramatta River to 8 marines in 1792. The settlers used this land to grow vegetables, wheat and Maize. The area was known as the Field Of Mars in honor of Mars the god of war.

Ermington also played an early role in Australia’s wine industry with Gregory Blaxland establishing a vineyard there in 1806. During 1822 Australia’s first wine export was shipped to England from Blaxlands Brush Farm vineyard. To this day the neighbouring suburb of Dundas has a creek named Vineyard Creek. In 1945 the government acquired many of the nurseries and orchards for housing and war commission homes.
